Blog #3

An important conflict in my novel is between John and Henri. Henri is always ready to leave whenever danger is close, but John doesn't feel the same, not in Paradise. After becoming friends with Sam and falling in love with Sara, he tries his best to stay in Paradise as long as possible. Throughout the novel Henri has said plenty of times to John, always be ready to disappear and never grow attached to anyone, like Sara.  At some point in the novel Henri decided that is was time for him and John to leave Paradise behind because the Mogadorians were to close. John couldn't bring himself to leave Sara or Sam so in response to Henri, he used his telekinesis and pins him against the wall, trying to convince him they are safe here, that he has it under control. In my eyes this was a big mistake of John but he was too blinded by love to see that. When Marks house caught on fire, John saved Sara and Mark's two dogs from the fire, a huge contribution to blowing his cover. When he came home with cuts and bruises all over his body, he lied to Henri about the fire and said he didn't do anything heroic. When John checked the paper, it said nothing about him saving Sara and the dogs from the fire, therefore thinking he was still safe in Paradise. He was wrong. Two hours later the principal calls him into the office and gives an anonymous letter reading: ARE YOU NUMBER FOUR? In panic John jumps through the window and runs home. There he finds Mark in his house asking what he is, that he cannot be human. Marks shows him a video of John jumping through the window in the process of saving Sara and the his dogs from the fire. Just then Henri walks in and begins yelling at John, furious that he lied to him. The Mogadorians were now in town and they were both unsafe. Around the end of the novel, within the battle between the Mogadorians, Henri is badly hurt and is dying. While John holds him in his arms, he tells him that he should have listen to him, that he was right about leaving Paradise. Henri was still proud of John though. My main point is that John and Henri had a disagreement, and John should have listen to Henri the first time he said they should leave, and now John has obviously learned his lesson the hard way.

My question for you is: Have you every gotten advice or been told something that you didn't listen to, and ended up regretting it later on?
